For the sister who recently emailed me about my books: I have attempted to respond to your email more than once but, unfortunately, the email continues to come back with a message saying that it is undeliverable. Dear sis, can you please try sending the email again in'shaa allaah?

Quick Post: Islaamic Sight Words Mini-Workbook
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Today's Quick Post is an Islaamic Studies Sight Word Mini-Workbook. Kindergartners and students in Grade 1 are introduced to and work with Islaamic words that are used very, very frequently in their homes, in the masjid and in their school in'shaa allaah. Knowing how to spell these words will, in' shaa allaah, help students when they are reading children's books written for and by Muslims and when they are writing their own stories.
The instructions for all activities are included in the mini-book. However, the pages that have sentences with dots under each word do not have instructions, so I'll mention the instructions here. The dots are under each word in the sentence to help children practice one-to-one correspondence. When students read the sentence they will place their finger on each dot beneath each word as they read it - one dot, one word.
You can download the mini-book here or from A Muslim Child is Born's Teacher's Notebook store in'shaa allaah.

Math Journal Activities: Adding Three Numbers
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Due to limited blogging time, I thought I'd try something new: Quick Posts. These posts will feature a classroom activity that is easy to print, cut and complete and directions will be provided in'shaa allaah (here on the blog).
Most of the activities that will be featured in the Quick Posts will be those that are used in students' interactive journals, however, that does not mean you have to use them in that way. Many of the activities can be used as worksheets, too!
We'll see how this goes, and if time permits biithnillaah, Quick Posts will appear regularly until the end of the school year in'shaa allaah. The first Quick Post is:
The first activity is completed after the concept of adding three numbers has been taught and practiced as a whole group and in small groups in'shaa allaah. To complete this activity students:
Simple in'shaa allaah: Print, cut, glue and solve!
You can download a copy here or from A Muslim Child is Born's Teacher's Notebook Store here.

The first activity is completed after the concept of adding three numbers has been taught and practiced as a whole group and in small groups in'shaa allaah. To complete this activity students:
- Cut out each problem along the vertical dotted line (students DO NOT cut the solid horizontal black line in the middle of the page).
- Students will have four (4) individual strips of paper with one problem on each strip in'shaa allaah.
- Students fold each strip along the horizontal black line in the middle of the strip. Students glue the strip into their notebooks by putting glue on the back of the crayon box graphic ONLY.
- The strip should open downward displaying the crayon box on top (which is now glued down to their notebooks) and the ten frames on the bottom strip of the paper (which is not glued down - if all goes well in'shaa allaah *smile*).5. Students then use the ten frames to solve the equation.
- Cut out each problem and glue them into their Math Journals.
- Students are given a separate sheet of paper that has the answers (not in the same order as the problems appear on the first sheet they are given). They must cut out the answers and glue the correct answer in the appropriate box.
Simple in'shaa allaah: Print, cut, glue and solve!

Answering a Parent's Question About the Math Review Pack
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
In'shaa allaah this post will answer the question a parent had about the "Tell Me All About the Number" page in the Winter Break Review Pack: Math. The parent wished to have clarification about how students complete this page, specifically the "Fact Family" section. In'shaa allaah, this explanation is helpful.
The explanation will follow the numbers on the image above in'shaa allaah. Students complete the page in the following manner:
In'shaa allaah this post will answer the question a parent had about the "Tell Me All About the Number" page in the Winter Break Review Pack: Math. The parent wished to have clarification about how students complete this page, specifically the "Fact Family" section. In'shaa allaah, this explanation is helpful.
The explanation will follow the numbers on the image above in'shaa allaah. Students complete the page in the following manner:
- The parent/teacher assigns a number (in this example the number is 11).
- Students have already worked with finding a missing addend, so now they will transfer that knowledge and use a number line, as in the example, or math manipulatives to assist them (Students have already done this as well). The students see that they must find two numbers whose sum is equal to 11. The students choose a number that is less than 11 (you may wish to tell students that the number cannot be 0 or 1). The students then write the number they chose in the first box. In this example, the number is 5. The students then use the number line to see how many times they have to move on the number line to reach the number 11. In this case, the students had to move 6 times. Therefore, the students now know that the next number in the equation is 6, and they write the number 6 in the second box. The students then write the answer to the equation (in this case, 11). The students now have the three numbers they need to complete section 3: "Fact Family."
- The students complete "Fact Family" using the three numbers from section 2. The students have had plenty of practice with fact families so this section should familiar, in'shaa allaah.
- In section 4, the students simply tell if the number the teacher/parent has assigned is even or odd.
- In section 5, the students use the assigned number to write a word problem that uses that number. For example, a student might write: Fahd had 5 pencils. Mahmud gave Fahd 6 more pencils after school. Fahd now has 11 pencils.
